Subject: [V8] New Member 1990 3.6L V8
I am the proud owner of a 1990 3.6L V8, Pearl Exterior, Black Interior, VIN
#WAUKE5445LN090643. I was a member of this list once before (I owned an 89
200TQ) and happy to be a part of it again. This car is originally from Utah
and seems to be well maintained. A friend of mine bought this car through
an auction and being that he is familiar with Audi's and Porsches, he bought
this car. Anyway, the car runs strong and is in excellent condition for a
car with 165,000 miles but I do have some questions with some issues.
1. Lately I've noticed that the oil pressure is a little lower
then usual. At idle, it is usually little above 2 bar. Now in the last
week I have noticed it drop below 2 bar and subsequently the oil warning
light pops up. Oil level seems to be fine (how many quarts of oil does this
car take?) but it is a little strange to me that the oil pressure can jump
around like that. Any ideas?
2. Should I be smelling a slight gasoline smell in my oil??? It is
ever so slight but I could smell it on the oil cap when I changed my oil.
3. Instrument cluster: everything works but every once in a while
the water temp. and gas gauge will turn off at the same time. Sometimes a
firm tap on the steering wheel will get the gauges up and running again.
This is sometimes accompanied by the seatbelt light turning on and off.
Anyway, I just bought a new O2 sensor because the car does seem to be
running a bit lean and I do not know when this was last replaced. I will
also give the car a tune up in a couple months. Any idea where I can get
good but affordable tune up parts? I did check the FAQ list before posting.
All replies are very much appreciated. It's good to be back.
Kind regards,
