You guys are going to love this one,

First off, no I didn't lose my v8 - But I think I came close.

Tonight I stopped at the local spray wash to rinse the salt off of the
beloved v8 - I washed it all and then thought I would give the engine
compartment a good spray (which I had done in the past with no problems
other than running somewhat rough for a few minutes) When I was done I
started the car which ran for a few seconds and then died, wet Dizzys - I
tried to re-start for about 2 minutes to no avail. I waited about 2 more
minutes and it started but just barely, it then proceeded to run very
rough with me trying to rev it up for about a minute,
                 then it happened.
I heard a couple loud backfires accompanied by flaming pieces of
platinum coated ceramic briquettes shooting out the rear! I shut her down
and looked under the car to see a cherry red cat which within 30 seconds
or so had enough heat to catch some grease or something on fire! -
Fortunately I was in the spray wash bay, Unfortunately I only had 3
quarters. I made change as fast as is humanly possible, slammed the last
quarter in and soaked her down.
Now I know this whole story is full of things you should not do - DO NOT
try to run an engine that is only running on a few plugs and dumping fuel
into the ever so expensive cats. DO NOT spray water on a grease fire.
And lastly DO NOT, I stress this point, Write a letter to the v8 list full
of people smarter than you are, or at least smart enough not to tell on
themselves.
Anyway, after she cooled down I started her right up, let her run at
idle while watching everything, drove home and she is in the driveway. I
think I only melted one cat down and I believe that it was already on the
way out because of some vibration I had been hearing - now it sounds like
a Chevy or something with one pipe clogged and rattling. I'll know
tomorrow when I pull the pipes.

Glad to still have a V8,
                                                   Jason
