First off, I'd like to thank Keith and Bruce of Audiconnection for helping
to get my v8 back on the road in a timely fashion.
Some months ago my A/C went out -- presumably compressor-- so I only used
the econ mode until the clutch went as well last week -- can you say smoke +
lots of bits of burnt rubber from the accrressory serpentine belt. I ended
up having to cut the belt because the engine would barely turn over.
Anyhow, I made the wrong decision in picking up a remanufactured
(supposedly) A/C compressor w/clutch on EBAY from a place called TexAuto (I
think) in (where else) Texas end of September. I emailed them my car info
and they still sent me the wrong compressor in October (or at least the
wrong pulley), whereupon I sent it back and they sent the 'correct' one,
which while the compressor housing fit, the clutch was off by 1/2 inch! My
tech didn't figure that one out until he went to install the serpintine
belt.
You can imagine how embarrased I was (and I've known my tech buddy for 14
years). I knew I wouldn't get a replacement soon enough (still haven't had
a reply from my e-mail last Wednesday?) I think their rating will be going
down a notch shortly.
Anyhow, I phoned Audiconnection on Wednesday afternoon and spoke to Keith
and they just happened to have the right compressor for me -- 91 v8 5
speed(still on the car, of course) and overnighted it to my local shop.
Everything from then on went like clockwork. I just can't thank them
enough. And at a lower price than the worthless 'reman' unit.
Anyhow, that's my shameless plug.
Ingo in Detroit -- windows steaming on both v8's -- fresh air flap
spring??? gotta love these cars :-)

First, I wish you the best of luck.
Second, I want you to keep the list advised as to how you do, what problems
you encountered, and how you solved them (other than slathering on the
money).
What year is your 5KQ donor car? How much of it are you going to be able to
use and what will you need to buy that is standard shift V8Q specifc?
(See I've got this 86 5KQ sitting in the back yard, and while there's
nothing wrong with the autobox on my V8Q YET . . . )
Best Regards,
Mike Arman

The spring is the first thing to check. Good method from previous posts:
Fold a small metal strip over the plastic cross bar and having put holes on
each end of the metal strip, fold together and put spring end through the
holes. A lot easier to do with the glove box removed, which is a bit of a
pain.

Hey guys I'm new to the forum...
I was wondering if anyone new where to get a copy of the Bentley Cd manual
that covers the 90 v8q (I assume all years are very similar if not the
same). I also noticed a post pretaining to converting the trannie on a 90v8q
from auto to 5sp. Could you guys be so kind as to give me a basic perception
of what is involved with the conversion? I have plenty of donors available
and would love to convert my baby to stick. I just know with some trannie
conversion you're also talking about allot of wiring issues, and a raiator
swap etc. Just the basics will suffice I don't wanna be too much of a pain.
TIA
David

Thanks, Bob
Yes, I've done this on my 200 and my mother's previous '91 100. And problem
confirmed on both v8's. Good thing I don't have back problems :-)

I believe the real Bently is now available from - Bently.
There were copies of scanned manuals available but quality and usability was
not all that great. The only negative about the real Bently is that it is
windoze only and I am Mac only.
The scanned manual works on any platform with a browser.

You Laugh....My temp fix is a bundle of bubble wrap wedged between the
'grille' as it were and the recirc door. No more steaming windows :-)

As to the Bentley CD ... you can get it from Bentley ... www.rb.com or from
Dyment Distribution www.audi.ddsltd.com. When I was contemplating the
installation of the ABZ engine in my car I picked up the CD for the A8/S8 on
eBay for about 1/3 off retail.
... as to the MT conversion, one place to look is the archives for the list
