No doubt it is the brushes in the alternator.  I replaced them and the regulator for about $60 (I let someone do it), and I'm glad I did, cause it was on it's last leg.  Replace them now before you get stuck 6 hours from home on the day before Christmas.  (Yup, happened to me in the 5kcstq.)
