... if I were you I would open up the door panel and disconnect the speaker
right away. This happened on #2 and I found the output drivers cooked on
the amplifier. While there do not appear to have been reports of fires
caused as a result of this, based on what I saw and smelled, it certainly
seemed possible that a more serious situation might have developed.
Assuming that this is the standard capacitor failure ... which I would
believe to be a reasonable assumption ... you may be able to recover your
amp by replacing the caps. Certainly a cheap test even if there is
something else wrong.
Given it is the driver's door, another possible suspect is broken wires in
the loom in the door hinge ...
