Remove the amp and have the capacitors replaced. Brett did a great 
writeup on it. You can also send it to carstereohelp.com and they will 
rebuild it for you.
If the odometer is non functioning, but the trip isn't, it could be 
several things. You could play with it (might be just a connection to 
the servo-motor) . Or you could send it back to VDO and have it 
repaired. I believe their standard charge is under 100.00.
As far as the CEL goes, find some who has, or invest in Vagcom, or 
shadetreesoftware.com. If you plan on keeping the car it will pay for 
itself...
