[V8] New Serpentine Belt Goes Wild

Didn't you find a loose bolt in the compressor or something a while back?
Sounds like something is chewing up the belt, I'd take a real close look
at the AC compressor, and for any bolts that might have contact with the
belt. Check the alignment of the belt on the various pulleys and for any
rub marks in the belt path. Did you hear a squeal before the belt
failure?
Keep a belt and a few tools handy in the trunk, and if you have a spare
battery kicking around, I'd carry that with a pair of jumpers around in
case you need to ferry the car (although if you have the original size
battery in the car it'll go quite a distance on battery juice alone)
home or wherever sans the belt.
While a different setup, the 200TQA has thrown 3 belts in as many months.
I've replace the belt, and can't find anything wrong. The latest belt
is going on about a month now, I strongly suspect the alternator may be
seizing under heavy load (AC, headlights on), also a possibility in your
case. If the 200TQA was supplied with a serpentine belt ala the V8Q, I
suspect that it would be shredding belts instead of just throwing them
onto the roadway.
