[V8] Usual suspects for no start V8?

Mine used to do this. Does it smell very rich? The Fuel Pressure Regulator
was my problem. I also cleaned the Idle Stabilizer Valve and replaced the O2
sensor.

What are the usual suspects for a no-start V8?

Battery died, replaced with new one, now won't start.

Cranks fine, all dash lights OK, seems like it is TRYING to start, but just 
won't "catch".

Or should I just make the jumper and test light and pull the codes?
