[V8] stalling

This morning when I started my 1990 v8 it kept on stalling.It stalled as soon as I let go of the key. I found that if I kept the idle up it would keep running,but as soon as I came off the gas it would stall again.I got the car to go by shifting the car into reverse with my foot on the gas and the idle about 1200rpm.The car ran well for the rest of the day.Anyone have any advise or btdt?
