[V8] Fluid leak mystery

Thanks for all the suggestions. To answer some of the questions:

As Cobram noticed, the fluid is DTE13M, not Pentosin. I'm not enough of a
purist to pour $16/quart in there when a really close equivalent is
$2.10/quart.

I'm almost positive it is not the pump - the belly pan has been off for
about 2 years - it vanished mysteriously on one of the very rare occasions I
have stretched the V8's legs - somewhere north of 130mph it detached itself.
Needless to say there wasn't very much left of it to reattach.

I forgot to mention in the original post that the fluid drips onto the
exhaust right above the λ sensor. When you stop and open the hood you get a
fair bit of oil smoke coming from that area.

Hmm - wrote that this morning and didn't send it - I took the car out this
afternoon and think maybe the hose solved the problem and that the last few
drives were still burning off the excess oil. I couldn't see any other
place where fluid was coming out and what I could feel around the rack felt
dry. Maybe the problem is solved?

Thanks for the suggestions.
