Again,
I agree that Synthetic is superior to conventional, however, I had an 88
Isuzu trooper with 238K on it when I sold it still running good - only
thing done to engine was the head (design flaw, definitely not oil
related). Anyway, I always used 10w-40 valvoline. I had the motor apart
at 200K because of a rod knocking (or so I thought, ended up being a
broken motor mount) Engine had original compression figures, no wear or
scoring evident on cylinders, pistons, main or rod bearing surfaces. 2nd
example, My mother-in-law, 96 Honda civic - 212K - changes the oil
whenever she gets the notion (12-15K) uses whatever cheap oil is around -
still runs great - never been touched, period. Again, I really think that
synthetic is better, I admit that, and if you run your car like you stole
it on a consistent basis (not a bad thing;)) than synthetic is your best
choice - but if you are a normal everyday driver, than using conventional
oil and going 6-7K between oil changes is not a terrible action.

When will the purist oust me?
                                                        Jason
