[V8] Accelerator cables

This takes on a new meaning in Spica-injected Alfa Romeos:  If you forget to attach the chassis ground strap to the bell housing after an engine transplant or clutch job, the vinyl coated steel throttle cable becomes a huge fuse and catches on fire, literally going up in acrid smoke!  Fortunately these cars were actually equipped with a "hand throttle," an early form of cruise control, so you could continue to your destination if the aircraft cable actually broke (it does) the link between engine and chassis.

My 1977 Corvette busted a throttle cable and all I had was a camera strap in
the car. I popped the hood and tied the strap to the accellerator and held
it in my hand out the window. I drove it home 25 miles. (the 4 speed manual
made it very interesting.
