Not to tell you what to do, but,

  Check the plug wires(or firing order), then check 'em again.  I have
rebuilt motors, transmissions, and a little bit of everything else - but I
always seem to get two backwards, its very easy to do and it would
probably even idle well.  You are on the right track, I have had both of
my dist. caps crack, doesn't run well at all.
