... sorry to hear about the accident ... from your description I can't
tell if the car was in use or parked when hit ... I hope noone was
seriously hurt.
Given that insurance companies have the rules worked out in your favor,
the chances are that the insurance company would have simply totaled the
car anyway ... but you should push them if you believe that you did have
coverage. Don't forget about the fact that the person who hit you is
still responsible ... even though they were uninsured. About this time
last year #2 was rear ended by someone who had no insurance ...
fortunately for me I was able to convince them to pay to fix the car ...
In California it is against the law to drive without insurance ... I
don't know if that is true in WA as well, but if so it might be
something you can use in your negotiation with the person at fault ...
