Well, I am pleased to announce that my 1993 V8 is sold and gone to a new
home.
Pleased? Yes. I had wanted THAT car for some time, and searched a long
time to find it. I bought it and drove it for three years, gradually making
it at home here, with Euro headlights and fully maintained with a mysterious
oil leak found last winter and finally, a new rear axle seal this fall. The
car was perfect and had 98,000 miles accumulated in its lifetime.
But I seldom got to drive it, as my real needs dictate that I be in some
sort of utility vehicle, most often a pickup truck. So, it was time for it
to go.
It was sold to someone who feels as strongly about these wonderful cars as
do I, and his plans are to have a five speed transmission installed in place
of the automatic. It will be a fine car to have this transplant.
I have enjoyed this fellowship throughout my time owning a V8. I will not
have another one of these cars, although we will still have Audis in this
house.....my wife's '94 100 Avant, and soon, my '91 20 valve that is having
a light restoration before it returns to the road.
The future? I dunno....I sometimes think about an S6 Avant and then there
is also something like a Cayenne S that would work well here in rural
Maine....aside from the difficulty in servicing it, and assuming that the
Cayenne/Toureg vehicles have had their front end allignment problems
resolved so that they don't eat tires. All in another year.
Best of luck to all you folks with the V8. The Type 44 cars were Audi's
best "real" cars, I think, and none finer than the V8!
Roger
