... your T4C experience should give you sufficient background ... just look
for the same sorts of things you'd look for in a V8! Most of the reasons
the V8 seems to be less prone to the foibles of the 5000/100/200 is that it
is simply a newer car (IMO). We are starting to see some of the old things
so familiar to T44 owners ... damaged wire loom in the door ... sunroof
problems ... problems with the sun visors ...

The engine in the 100 is relatively strong for a non-turbo, and quite robust
as it does not have the stresses of the turbo ... if you're lucky you may
find a 5-speed ... the one thing to look at is the condition of the iol
cooler lines ... engine damage occurs quickly if the lines burst.

My brother-in-law has an '88 5000 Avant 5-speed FWD ... the manual tranny
with the low end torque of the non-turbo motor make it a good car ... but
then I'm a big fan of the styling of the T44 Avant ...

Driving up to look at an '89 100 Avant FWD on Sunday. I know it's got
some ABS light and power window issues, but initial feeling is that the
car is in could-be-worse condition. My VAG experience doesn't include
any Type 44 five-poppers, so I was hoping anyone who has any specifics
for me to check out might let me know. Certainly private emails to keep
the list dry are fine.
