Possibly Audiworld.com could be part of said web entity. They
definitely a whole crapload of ACNA members on their site daily. That
would definitely get more knowledge and recognition out to the
information.

Subject: RE: [V8] A.U.D.I.

Audi's (and Audi drivers for the most part) are a rare breed. We love
our cars and put up with all kinds of, mmm, *German* engineering marvels
(you have to take the good with the bad, right?)

We drive 10+ year old cars not because we can't afford something newer,
but because nothing puts a grin on our faces like a 4000 lb pig in sport
mode. And if I sold my V8, I think I might have more separation anxiety
form you guys than the car. :-)

Why are Audi resale values so low despite the fact that they sell for a
mint brand new? Why don't other 'brands' have this problem? Why are we
so willing to dump maintenance dollars in to our cars when we know we
won't get them back out when we go to sell? Most of us on this list
know the answer to that, but why not those looking on AutoTrader, Ebay,
etc?

What can we do to spread our enthusiasm for Audis? Better yet, what can
we do to increase our resale values? Dave Head and others stand to make
all kinds of money if this happens. :-)

I didn't say anything when the whole website idea was floating around,
but I had some ideas there prior to that thread. As I will never find
the time, I might as well pass the thought on to you guys and some day
someone might actually do it.

What if there was a website out there that had the biggest Audi shade
tree database on the planet. What if this database contained questions
and answers from owners (like the archive data)? What if this database
also contained information linked to the VIN of our cars? Like Bill
Bremmer's URQ database? What if certified Audi Friendly garages across
the country could enter maintenance info into this database? What if I
could login to this site, click on the 'My Audis' tab, click on my '90
V8, and update that I bought a 077 103 221 Breather Hose from SJM for
$47.50 on 2/11/04 and installed it at 147k. What if I was interested in
selling the '90 to buy a '93 and wanted to share a link to a perspective
buyer so he/she could see what has been done to my car? What if this
site had a FSBO tab that we could sell our cars / parts on?

Basic use is free. This includes searching the archives, looking at
what's for sale.

For a nominal yearly fee, you get web space and email address, access to
'my car history' DB, you can put things up for sale, and did I mention
you can check out Keith's step by step write up (with pictures!) on how
to change a timing belt?

For Keith's trouble doing this tech article, he gets a small $$ kickback
form said web entity.

Audi Friendly Garages can pay a subscription (about the cost of a yellow
pages add) to be able to have their name on the website listed as
'preferred garages in your area' and access to the user's car DB to
update the info. 'Preferred garages in your area' tab allows you to
enter a zip code and see which shops are the closest, and what kind of
feedback Audi Owners have given.

Links to tuners... Ned, 2B, etc. pay a yearly subscription for a link
to his site, or perhaps sells their wares directly from the web store on
said web entity's website.

An area on there where I can go and enter a request for a right rear
tail light for my V8, and Bruce, Chris, etc shoot me back a quote for a
used one. Say I need a new part - fire off a request and have several
parts getters (sjm, etc) fire back a quote for new OEM replacement
parts.

I have more ideas floating around in my head. If anyone is willing to
take on this patented Jeremy Ward vision (Dan Simoes?), let me know and
I will give you more thoughts.

Enjoy,

- Jeremy
