[V8] exhaust needed for 90 V8 quattro

Dad and my exhaust guy said the exact opposite.  He said that the center
"muffler" was the resonator and the rear "muffler" was the muffler.
Lemme check the Factory service manual....well it calls them both
mufflers.  Oh well, I only have one now =)

The latter.  Any good muffler man can fab anything you want from the
cats back.  

According to some old email I was just going through, the center piece
is actually a muffler with the rear being just a resonator.  Not sure
what kind of sound you would be looking for but I've had the rear piece
replaced with straight pipe and I am very happy with it.  My center
piece is starting to rot out so when the time comes, I'll be exploring
options there other than stock as well.

I need a new exhaust from the CAT's back on my 90 V8.  It's pretty
rotted 
from the joint between the converters to the rear of the car.  Most
places 
seem to be averaging around $700-$800 for it.  Anywhere out there have
them 
a little cheaper or would I be better off to have my friend make them
for me 
at his exhaust shop?
