I have the standard US Lenses, Competition Limited wiring harness with
relays, and run 135W brights and 100W lows. The beam pattern leaves a
little to be desired with the high beams, but works well enough for me.
Really lights up the night on the twisty roads down in the Ozarks. Certainly
the brightest setup I have ever had and I run high power(for off road use
only!) bulbs in all my cars. The wire harness, with 12 volts off the
positive battery lead in the engine compartment, really makes the
difference.

I'm no expert, but I believe the Canadian cars use US DOT
spec lights. Those lights use a plastic lens, unlike the European lenses,
which are glass. Even if the lights are relayed (that really only protects
the switch), higher wattage bulbs will draw more current, and might a)
overtax marginal wiring, and b) discolor or melt the plastic lens. That
said, I believe there are people on the quattro list with Type 44 cars that
have used higher wattage bulbs with some success. Check the archives, or
wait for someone to confirm it.
