[V8] SEAL, Front Engine Crankshaft--TOO SMALL

I had a similar experience with a threaded stud that holds down my fuel
rail. I sheared one of them, so I looked up the p/n in ETKA and ordered
one. Too short (by about 50%). Thought they goofed, so I ordered
another one... Same length.
Strange that they would 'revamp' a part already associated with a part
number instead of just creating a new p/n...

I wonder if that is part of the issue... the fact that Audi says they're
the same part. I bought two from Audi a couple years ago and only
replaced the oil pump seal. It went in very securely which I feel now
means that it was the right size/part. I did not however replace the
crank seal. It was dry there and I didn't want to tempt fate. I can
check it out p/n, measure it, etc.
I just wonder if someone at Audi decided that the two were close enough
and "combined" them or if it they happened to have many more oil pump
seals and again someone decided it was close enough that they'd sell
those out and not reorder the crank seals.

If I remember right, I got my seals for cams, rear main, front crank and
oil
pump (same as crank) from Bow Wow auto parts. They were all off the
shelf parts
and fit just fine.
