[V8] Throttle stuck open!!

Ok... so we finally got a couple of nice days in a row and I got my pads 
swapped around, recharged the battery and fired up the V8... It, as usual, fired 
immediately and rolled along at 1100rpm or so warming up.  I was rather ticked 
to see that the pad warning lights didn't go off... I guess I have to pull the 
wheels and recheck the splices... after I bleed everything again.
But... I tapped the throttle and it swung up to redline and stuck!  Pulling 
back on the pedal made no difference so I shut it down.  Fiddled with the pedal 
a bit and started it again - right up to redline again.
HELP!?
It's been sitting for a couple of months waiting to get the roters and pads 
swapped.  My suspicion is mechanical not electrical.  Is there a common 
failure?
Thankfully this was in the driveway, not on some city street!
