I think the aux relay you refer to is actually the relay that comes on
when the key is in the accessory position and stays on for a few minutes
after the car is turned off or as soon as the door is opened (think it is
called a load reduction relay)- it would definately cause the trouble - I
think (I haven't looked so check me on this) the 3rd speed fan relay is
the same thing (70a with the big plugs) you could try it to see.
