Jeremy,
Yes tranny & engine have to be seperated,
allso the part that has the teeth is a seperate piece
it attatches to the plate anotherwords the ring gear
is bolted to a metal plate so all you need to replace
is the ring gear.
It probly would be easier to just replace the whole
thing thought.
if you can't find one for a good price I have an
extra I could sell you from a parts car I tore apart a
few months ago.
Allso if you'r magiverish you could locate the spot
with no teeth through the starter hole, rotate the
engine till you see the missing teeth & weld a glob
there & file & dremel some new teeth, BTDT on a old V8
but it wont last in my case only 6 more months till I
had to replace the gear on it.
Hope this helps
Ron
