[V8] Anatomy of a flakey speedo

After finding that the real cause of my speedo woes was the connector at the
sender unit, I thought I had it fixed. That lasted about 2 weeks, then it
sputtered a little and died completly.
I pulled the sender out and had a good look at at it and realized what I
thought was a little corrosion was in fact bare copper. The plating on the
sender pins was flaking off and laying at the bottom of the connector. As far
as I can see, the wire connector pins are still OK. So I cleaned things up real
good and put it back together and so far it is working solid but the bare
copper will probably corrode again before long. I thought about putting some
sort of grease on the pins but decided against it.
Any other ideas to prevent copper corrosion?

fyi, you can remove the sender by: (with car on ground)
these two steps required if you have a 5-spd. Don't know about the auto
remove LF wheel
remove bolt holding trans oil cooling line (5-spd)
remove air filter box
remove timing senders heat shield
reach down and unplug sender
unsnap and remove sender.
You can get the wires up high enough to inspect/clean them.
