For those interested, S6 seats fit the 92 V8 perfectly. All connectors
fit correctly also. The 92 cars have a plastic block tie wrapped in
place to prevent the seat from going back too far. These have to be
removed from each side track in order to access the bolts. There are
also cute trim pieces which cover the feet in front. If you source new
seats from a 92 up car make sure you get those too if you plan on
putting later seats into a 91 or earlier car. Remember - S6 seats have
the solid headrest - S4 seats headrests are open like the earlier cars.
The ecru looks nice. We've decided not to recolor at this time - the
difference to brown is not unattractive. Plus, if the wife decides later
to drive the lago/grey car due to the softer suspension, the ecru will
look good against the grey interior.
The 92 up cars use a trim cap which covers the screw for the trim piece
in back on the inside. You can carefully pry this out to access the
screw. On my 90 V8 its a plastic plug in place of the screw - use a
small socket from underneath to compress the 'locking' feet, then pry
carefully.

So if your V8 seats are trashed, even if you can't afford the premium
prices the 'S' seats go for, you could always spring for A6 seats which
are nice and a dime a dozen...

Currently I know of 2 'S' sets in the east for sale (force5auto.com,
tan, ecru), one set in Colorado, one in northern California (both in the
marketplace, and black, as I recall).

Maybe Audi has better seats, but I haven't sat in them yet...
