[V8] "Major Surging"

NO ... the black wire is the sense wire ... that is the wire the OXS "talks"
to the ECU over ... grounding it wouldn't likely damage anything, but you
would probably get trouble codes generated ...

If all you did was break the black wire you can just splice it back together
again and cover the joint with heat-shrink. I got the impression that you
may have damaged the harness that attaches to the black wire ... if that is
indeed the case, you need to be more careful ... the harness has shielded
cable, and you need to be careful not to short the center conductor to the
ground shield. If indeed you need to do this level of repair, I agree that
it is best to take a step back and modify the harness to support a
non-factory solution. I've not had to do this myself, but it would make
perfect sense to attach the ground lead for a 4-wire OXS to the shield in
the harness.

My biggest problem with making this sort of change is that it impacts anyone
who services the car as well as any subsequent owner. I you do end up
hacking into the car's wiring you should carefully document what you have
done and leave some clues in the glove compartment.
