I have decided to just let my 90 V8 go. It has 210K on the clock; however,
the motor has been gone through and i have all the records to show. I have
the complete workup on the car. The transmission has let go, i have bought
another car, and do not have space for this car. I hate to sell her.. If you
can pick her up in Denver I will let you take her for $800. Paint good,
interior good, all around sound other than tranny. call me 720-839-4978

  Listers,

I'd like to thank all listers who gave me advice on
how to on line up the left distributor.
After taking the valve cover off I did notice a place
to put an open end wrench on the cam & it worked like
a charm.
The car fired rite up & was very smooth.
 Thanks again to everyone.
Ron

The Blower motor for my 91 - V8 has started to run erratically. This
car is my daily driver and performs flawlessly however now that summer
is coming I need the AC. I have read the archives and seen where some
have been able to "clean" the brushes with electric cleaner. My
problem is now that I have removed the cowl and am looking at the
blower motor - through all sorts of ac lines and electric cables and
the wiper motor. I don't see how to reach the motor nor do I see the
breather tube that needs to be removed. Anybody BTDT or have any
pictures. I also read of sending some lube into the air intake.
Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks
Roy

I seem to have found a coolant leak that originates at the drivers side.
There is a small heat shield which covers some black plastic parts, mounted
to the side of the engine block, and as far as I can tell somewhere in there
is the leak.
Does this make sense? Does anyone know what these parts are? Could it leak
from there?

I was planning on doing this again this weekend, I'd be happy to snap some
pix of it when I do. I did this about a month ago (just got a v8 this year)
and it worked like a charm for a couple weeks. But I didn't use any
electrical cleaner, just wd40, so this time around I got the cleaner and
wanted to try again.

I'll try to remember to snap pix and post urls to the list later this
weekend.

Intermittancy is the sign the blower motor is failing. Your best solution
is to plan on replacing it. You can "limp along" with the blower motor for
awhile, but eventually it fails altogether. Most of the time it's the
motor bearing surfaces wearing out. I've taken two Audi blower motors into
a Bosch motor service place after replacing them, and have been told both
were beyone repairing because of the wear.

If you examine the driver side of the heater core housing, up near the
front (engine end) there is a small L-shaped rubber hose that takes air
from the part of the housing that covers the fan to the back of the part of
the housing that covers the fan motor. The fan is a squirrel cage, the
motor is a smaller tubular shape. Both ends of the rubber hose are
grommet-shaped flares that seal into their respective parts of the
housings. If you disengage the end at the motor covering, you can swing it
up and not need to disengage at the blower end.

There is a photo of an upside-down heater core box on Chris Miller's
200q20v website:
http://members.aol.com/c1j1miller/drivers-side-heater-box.jpg that has
some printing over where the hose would be. The printing refers to the
device that retains the blower motor in its housing. The printing obscures
where the hose probably was in the photo, but since the hose is black and
the housing is black and the photo isn't all that sharp in that area of the
image, the printing pretty much hides the hose if it ever was visible.

Remember that whatever you spray in there is going to smell up the cabin.
I kept mine going over a winter by spraying occasionally with a penetrating
oil that included some teflon. The odor wasn't all that bad, but it would
hang around for at least a week.

Greetings all,

Sadly, I have to report my V8 owning days are over (for now). Thanks a
million to all the listers for over 3 years of fellowship.. Don't know what
I would've done without it?!?

I will always keep an eye out for another "special" V8... Hopefully, a 5spd
with low miles and owned by a little old lady who drove it to church on
Sundays..

Anyway, I got a bunch of my extra parts up for auction on eBay, see item #
2480617275. I'd like to get at least $75 bucks for ALL of it (that's my
reserve, shhh....)

Best,
Mike

Kneale - Thanks for the pic. My Gorilla hands had trouble getting in
but once I saw the pic it all made sense. Got in cleaned it and lubed
it and it seems to be working now. Just buttoned it up and I am hoping
I get a couple of weeks out of it.
Thanks again for your quick help - I hope wont need that 55mph AC for a
few weeks.
Thanks again,
Roy

I have a 1990 V8 Quattro I have decided to sell. I really wanted to
get around to restoring her, but it just won't happen.

It is black with a black leather interior (seats in good shape, but not
headliner) and has 140k on it. Runs but has a dead battery right at
the moment. It has been chipped by Autothority (known for their BMW
stuff mostly), has euro headlight with no cracks, and has a throttle
body from another Audi V8 (4.2 litre I think). Also mid 90's S4/s6
five spoke wheels and decent tires and Koni shocks and lowering
springs. I am in St Louis and will be donating her to charity for the
tax deduction if no one is interested. Great car for parts or a great
starting point for a project. Make me an offer (I don't want much), I
would rather see her go to an enthusiast.

Thanks

Randall

I apologize for not having done my homework pulling codes before asking
this question.

My 1990 beast has recently demonstrated two interesting qualities when
starting:

1. After sitting through a wet weekend, the car does not start on all
cylinders. Normally this car fires up best when cold, but the wet
aspect seems to be twist.

2. When hot, the car will start, but it doesn't seem to fire as happily
as when it is cold and dry.

I am beginning to think that the car is running richer than normal as I
am noticing more unburned fuel in the exhaust than I have in the past.
Or perhaps a cylinder or two are missing more than I am sensing?

Should I be thinking wires?

Any BTDTs appreciated as I am starting(no pun intended) would be
appreciated.

Charlie
