The clutch is shimmed,
the clutch need's to be .030? or ( a small # like
that) away from the compressor so if you can engage it
by pushing on it you probley need to take one of the
three shims (just small to large washers) out.
But like you mentioned if you're going to take it off
& it's old you probley should replace it anyway.
To replace you need to have a spanner wrench to hold
the clutch in place so you can take the nut out the
center should only be like 15 foot pounds you could
probley use a strap wrench sold at Sears to hold it,
you just don't want to wrench the new clutch when you
put it on so find something less abrasive.
