Instead of using a plug I take it to a place where they use a patch from the 
inside.  They first test the tire for leaks and then mark the spot where the 
leak is.  Then they also mark a sport on the sidewall to line up with the 
tire stem.  They then remove the tire from the rim and place a patch on the 
inside.  Afterward they line up the mark with the tire stem and sidewall.  
Total charge is $6.00

I always believed that a patch on the inside is better than a plug from the 
outside.
