For some reason you triggered the airbag light. I did the same thing. Did you 
turn the key on with the air bag disconnected?

My dealer wanted about $75 to hook up their scan tool and turn the light off.
That is almost half way to the cost of owning your own scan tool. (I think VAG-
COM is about $200)
I found an independant shop who turned mine off for free. If you expose the 
connectors (by removing the driver side console/tunnel cover (that carpeted 
piece) maybe you can get them to do it for cheap or even free. It takes about 
43 seconds to do the whole deal.
