My two cents....
As a "wallflower" on this list, I don't contribute to the knowledge
database as much as nearly any other person here, but I do read most of
the digests with intrest to see what all of you nuts are up to.
I know that there are issues with people saying that all info should be
shared, etc... but from a practical standpoint, this really isn't
possible. The amount of data required to do a conversion of this sort
is enormous, and the odds of making a step by step set of instructions
that any back-yard mechanic could follow are next to nil. However, I do
believe that a parts breakdown, as well as an expected cost for said
parts, and labor would be helpfull to those who wish to try this sort
of nonsense on their own.
I know the feeling. My '91 was converted to a six speed about two years
ago. The amount of time that Eddie (formerly of AutoHaus Vic here in
Seattle) spent was amazing. Having a resource like that is invaluable,
and of course , so is a brother with a rapid prototyping machine, and
several CNC machines at his disposal. Had I actually paid these two
idiots for the amount of time they spent working on the V8, I'd be
(more)broke.
Anyhow enough from me. Congats to the listers with the "new" five
speeds. Although you shoulda' asked, I have a 100k mile 5-speed tranny
sitting in the corner of the shop. :)
