Only thing I can think of was an old post where someone pulled distributor
and placed rotor on hard surface and struck with hammer to crack and then
remove. Not while mounted...............

Hmmm ... can't say I've ever heard anyone say anything about striking
anything ... certainly I have not ...
IME, the phenolic material of the rotor is rather brittle and it really
didn't take an extraordinary amount of force as I slowly increased the
pressure applied by the vise grips to break them ...
I do want to warn (again) those attempting Loctite with the set screw
rotors. Unlike the brittle phenolic material, the set screw rotors have a
brass sleeve that slides onto the distributor shaft. When I tried to remove
them from one of my "spare" distributors I found that the Loctite had
actually gotten into the area between the sleeve and the shaft ... and I'm
finding that it will take extreme measures to extricate it ...
