[V8] rough idle (update)

That hose is the crankcase breather hose.  If the hose is not intact it could cause idle problems by letting air into the engine that the MAF never saw.  These hoses turn to mush over time but the one you are looking at is normally in decent shape.  If the MAF is not functioning it can make a mess out of the idle.  I would check the computer for fault codes and go from there.  I would also check for vacuum leaks.  Pinch off the two vacuum hoses the exit on the left side of the throttle body and see if it helps.
