Frankie,
It could be many things, but one immediately comes to mind. There are
two bearings that are identical on the front of the motor, one that the
fan and fan pulley rides on, mounted on the timing cover, and the other is
a spindle for the cog that drives the oil pump from the timing belt.
These two bearing are special and expensive - I thought I would get by
with buying a used one - but when I got it, it was worse than the one I
was taking off. I ended up taking the seals off the ends of the bearing,
cleaning it well and re-packing with a synthetic, high temp grease. One
note, I tried (very fervently) to source this bearing from many people,
the only place I found was the dealer, and remember this, the one for the
oil pump is cheaper because the shaft comes with the bearing and is
different than the one for the fan, all you have to do is press the new
one out and replace it with the old one. If you suspect the fan bearing
take the belt off and spin it free hand to see what you feel or hear -
spin all the accessories at the same time you have the belt off. Also,
don't rule out the idler pulleys for the timing belt or the water pump -
if it is any of these you better do it soon.
Good luck,
Jason
