Hate to rain on anybodies parade...... but it's just like any of our other
beloved Audi's. When they run, they are a great car to drive.... but in the
22 month's we owned ours it was in the shop for 57 days. this is excessive
even for an Audi ;)
It was all Electrical issue's.
First was the top wouldn't move with the switch, had to use the key in the driver
side lock. It would get stuck up and sometimes down, one time halfway up it
stopped... I had to keep switching the key off/on in the ignotion and the key
lock and it finally went up...
This put it in the shop for 43 days. After replacing a module under the console
and fixing a wiring harness problem it was still intermittent. Final fix was a
new dashboard cluster. Dealer gave us a loaner during this, after 40 days of
nope the parts not in yet, they asked for the loaner back.... when I asked
great the car is fixed ? well.... uuummm, no.... but we need the loaner back.
uuummm, no I don't think so. When the car is fixed i'll give the loaner back.
They called the next day, car is done. They must have swapped a cluster from
another car. They could of done this 42 days ago... oye...
Second was the ignition coil pack. flatbedded to the dealer.
Third, Another computer hickup where when my wife hit the right turn signal the
seat moved forward. nice.... The radio, alarm, windows and who knows what else
also died... but it still drove... it dumped 60 codes, flatbedded it after
arguing with the service manager who wanted me to drive it. I said if you fax
me a letter to my house stating you'll be responsiable if the car does something
else weird and I get in accident on the way there then sure, i'll drive it.
Flatbed was their in a couple of hours.... dealer reset the computer and said
let us know if it does it again.
It did, they replaced a computer.
Being an Audi I expected to have some issue's and that Audi would stand behind
the car and fix it all. At $47k and change I expected good service and support.
Apparently Audi has decided they can skip the good service part. Over the last
year they know want to charge me for rentals when their car needs to be
flatbedded for a warranty issue, they won't change wiper blades, balance tires
or rotate them either under the 4yr/50k maintenance agreement.
They did all this for ther first year, know, it's screw you....
At this point we where ready to trade it for a 4 door anyway, kids don't fit in
the back anymore :)
The sales guy at Nashua Audi was talking 31-32 for trade in and "aggressive"
pricing on a a4 quattro sedan.
I had a long talk with the service manager, expressing my displeasure and what
can I expect in the future.... I might as well have been talking to the wall.
Decided I'm done with german cars, the "drive" no longer outweighs the hassle
of support... we traded it on a Lexus GS430. It gots 4 doors, real comfy, goes
like stink, but don't tell the wife :)
So, if you come accross a 03 A4 cab, silver/black with a small dimple on the
passenger rear fender lip. Beware. It's fraught with electrical issues.
YMMV,
Mike,
ex Audi 100, 100 avant, 90 V8, 91 V8, 92 100, 03 A4 Cab
