Sounds like you should have the alternator rebuilt, or at least the brushes and the other stuff on the inside replaced.  It's a Bosch parts man's dream, and I think that some of the parts actually cross over to a really big GM car (can't remember which one now.)  Search the archives, because there is a way to check to see if your alternator is charging.
