Hey John ,
I just read your posting ; you mentioned that your stereo shuts down but
does not loose power. That points to a " voltage loss / drop " leaving
enough voltage to eject but not enough for the internal electronics to work
. This would happen if your stereo power lead was hooked up to an accessory
that would turn " ON " when ever you reached a pre determined speed . The
only thing that I know of that would do just that, is the solenoid that
locks the torque converter turbine and impeller at a predetermined speed (
Some where between 50 - 80 mph ) These solenoids draw a healthy amount of
current ( 10 amps plus ) and could cause a voltage drop ( depending on where
the power is tapped at ) enough to cause your symptoms . Also , this
solenoid 's power is removed when the car slows to a certain speed AND the
brake is applied .
Try either of these things ; Hook up a voltage meter to your stereo power
lead and drive . or, Run a direct wire to the Battery jumper post for 12
Volts and see if it makes a difference.
Jurgen .
