I've never had a problem removing it with a brass hammer and stock bar. 
An air chisel with a blunt brass end works like magic too.

On thing to be careful of is the new clip, all the CV boot kits usually
come with TWO different clips, always match up the clips so that you're
replacing with the correct size.  The better kits (Lobro sp. etc.) come
with the new lower control arm bolt, ALWAYS replace these bolts with new
ones.
