[V8] heater core

I just finished my heater core job. PITA. I followed
instructions from http://members.aol.com/c1j1miller
and from countless posts I have read on the subject.
Many thanks for all the knowledge.
 
Two years ago I paid Max to replace a leaking heater
core that came with the car when I bought it. Well,
Just my luck the part he put in started leaking soon
after. He refused to do it again for free.(cant blame
him) But I couldn't stand to pay for it twice, so I
was forced to do it my self. Everything seems to be
working great now but the one thing I noticed was the
electric radiator fan is coming on in auto mode. So
I'm assuming the ac is on. Is this normal? It's 47
outside and I set the temp to 80. The engine temp was
not hot enough to trigger the fan. Does the ac always
run when the cc is set to auto?
