... to add insult to injury, IME the bar is under some non-torsional tension
also. This meant that I had a bear of a time starting the nut that goes on
the end of the anti-sway bar because the angle of the bar into the strut was
incorrect. I think it was qship who recommended the use of a "come along"
around the bar to apply the proper tension to get the correct geometry to
start the nut.
It is amusing to hear that the manual stipulates that the gasket be
replaced. I usually do this, but oftentimes the part is difficult to get
from the dealer ... I suspect that is because they don't replace this part
either. It is a very thin piece of rubber with adhesive that attaches it to
the inner CV mating surface with the drive flange. As long as the part
stays in place it is probably good enough to reuse. I guess since you are
doing a swap you will probably need to find a gasket ... I suspect your
replacement shaft does not have one ...
I need to do this job on #344 myself ... I attempted the task once before,
but stopped because I couldn't seem to get the clip to shear by re-inserting
the axle clamp bolt ...
