Well, I'll comment on the UFO brakes part.  I haven't gone to the BIRA upgrade (trying to find a cheaper way, but haven't gotten serious about it yet), but trust me, when in good working condition, the UFOs are all that you need to stop this car.  One bet: I just changed out my brake pressure accumulator (bomb) in response to a weak pedal pressure (went too close to the floor for me) and also a brake light that came on when I started the car in the morning.  Both have gone away, and I can smile when I slam on the brakes instead of heading for the ditch.  
Shifter switch has an adjustment on the tranny somewhere.  You can adjust it with an Allen wrench, I think, but I can't remember where it is.  Fixed the problem with my light not wanted to show me in Neutral.
