Hey all,
Some may remember my '91 5-speed getting crunched by a tour bus on I-95
a few months ago. After a month or two of idle bullcrap (operative
word being "idle"), I've gotten it to my friend's body shop where he and
a co-worker have torn it apart, fixed the damage (two new doors, new
fender, and some minor straightening), and prepped it for paint.
Jeremy Ward has graciously and repeatedly provided some room on his
website for some pics to show an update on where the repair status was
up until Saturday. It was then painted and is being sanded/buffed as I
type this. I have pics of the car in the booth post-spraying, but
haven't gotten them to Jeremy yet. For the faint of heart, yes, I
realize the real task lies ahead... but I'm very prepared for that,
because the color (alpine white, double the pearl) looks sweet as all
get-out, and is very clean and smooth. The pics show just how much of
the car was prepped for paint and reshot. Of particular note is that
all glass is removed to ensure non-Maaco overspray lines (new moldings =
big $$), and that the radiator support, along w/ all trim, doorhandles,
and the such were removed, prepped, and painted separately. It's a good
thing Ed (University Collision, Phila, PA, 215-378-9541) is a friend of
mine, or this would be much less involved, economically. As an aside,
Ed's got an '00 A4 that he stripped and changed from silver to that
funky light lime-ish green on the new beetles... looks unexpectedly
good.
Bruce, the most recent word is that the V8 should be trailerable by the
end of the week... will keep you posted.

Is that a slight glimmer of end-of-tunnel light I see?? Maybe not..
