[V8] The Spiritual Successor...

I don't know about the rest of you, but letting go of my V8 has been the 
hardest task because I just haven't felt there is a worthy 
successor....until today.  My brother just took delivery of an 05 A6 4.2 
Quattro today and I took it out for a test drive.  Wow!  IMHO, it is the 
spirtual successor to the V8 Quattro.  In the driver's seat, which are the 
sports seats and hold you like arms are wrapped around you, it feels like a 
sports car.  Everything is where it should be, easy to get comfortable and 
it is ready for business.  Tap the accelerator, and the thing eagerly 
accelerates.  Under controlled acceleration, the car feels just like an A8.  
  Step on the throttle, and the engine roars as you race through the gears.  
The thing is fast and the sound of the engine is just awesome, not the muted 
sound of the A8 or S8. While I didn't push the handling to the edge, with 
the sport suspension package there felt like there was a broad envelope to 
push even when going through s-turns in spirited fashion.  Really, the 
confidence I felt pushing the car through the twisties was better than any 
car I've driven short of a porsche carrera.  It really is awesome.

Although I recently bought an A8L, I'm already planning its successor as 
soon as the current gen. A6 4.2s start coming off lease.  If you get a 
chance, go out and drive one.
