[V8] Oil Filter stuck

... I don't think I ever posted it as it was experience learned in the
days before I knew about the qlist ... but I did have a similar
situation on the urq ... I ended up with the mounting flange attached to
the filter bracket. In that case I used a pin wrench that fit in the
holes the oil would normally pass through and finally got the base to
come off ... no fire wrenches used and fortunately I didn't mess up the
threaded piece the filter spins onto. As others had posted I'm pretty
sure the problem was caused by a PO not lubing the filter's seal
combined with an extensive interval between filter replacements.

On the V8 ... if anyone comes up with a similar issue in the future,
they might find it makes things a bit more accessible to remove the
starter. Yes, I know this sounds excessive ... but I know from my
engine on the bench that the starter sits right next to the filter. The
Catch 22 may well be that you need to have the filter off to be able to
pull the starter!

... sorry about the delayed posting ... I'm cleaning up my e-mail from
my PTO ...
