[V8] Escaped again!

Well the latest chapter in the saga of the V8 has ended. It ended yesterday
around five o'clock with the final seconds of the auction for a very nice
'93 V8 Quattro ticking away down in Hyannis.
I had placed one bid, which I had reported on this list. My bid was high
bid through the last two and one half days of the auction, and was high bid
right up to the last forty five seconds or so...and someone else sneaked by
and bought the car, with 112000 or so on the clock, for...GASP....$5300.00.
Sigh. I wasn't even near a computer terminal, as I was out walking around
an old granite quarry enjoying the late spring sunshine.
It is all just as well. First of all, although the color was OK (white
pearl), I really want a dark interior in my next V8. Secondly, although I
have decided that I really do want another V8, this is not the best time for
me to take one on. Financially. The 20Valve project has hit another snag.
The a/c compressor has a crack in the housing so it will have to be
replaced. Damn! I hate it when that happens.
Then yesterday, I had a big meeting with the bank to talk about why we need
to buy a front end loader that will lift twenty tons...so I was feeling
exhausted by the time the auction ended.
Finally, I really don't want to buy my next V8 sight unseen. I want to get
into my 20 Valve Avant, and take a trip to SEE the car, first, then buy it,
after enjoying the thought process and the agonizing, and the general
harassment that I can put all of YOU through, while it is ongoing.
(Including that guy, Unka Bart, who has rekindled the whole damned
business!).
Hah!
Roger
