[V8] compresion testing

My compression numbers are more like 130-145 PSI - but that may have a lot to do
with guage quality, elevation, etc. Or my motor could just be worn out and I can
not admit it to myself...
I too have high oil consumption - but I just did the magic "GM Top Engine
Cleaner" trick and it seems my oil consumption is now well over 1000 miles /
quart, where it was well below 1000/qt before.
When it gets down to 600 or 700 mi/qt I do the cleaner job and it jumps right
back up. My theory is that as oil usage goes up, so does carbon build up and
then a vicious circle of more burned oil and more carbon.
My motor has done this for as long as I have had it - which started at just
under 90K miles as indicated on the odo. I might add that this car rarely goes
over 45 MPH.
There are lots of places that will do this de-carbon engine cleaning for you for
around $100. It is kind of a PITA to do yourself - and there is a mandatory oil
change right afterwards.
Plus the pros have special machine that also cleans up the injectors at the same
time. I think it is called "MotoVac" at the shop I go to.
Also, while I aint no pro mechanic, I would fully expect the wet pressures to go
up some.
Too much would of course mean bad rings, but I guess the million dollar question
is how much is normal.
What kind of guage are you using?
