Before you took the thing apart did you do any investigation to find out
what was causing the thing to be frozen? Could it have been the cruise
control linkage?
It isn't clear to me that you will learn much by removing the linkage
... it is just a long rod with a pivot baring up near the front of the
engine. To get the thing out you'll need to either pull the engine from
the car or remove the intake manifold stuff. I'd recommend that you
just actuate the throttle mechanism with the throttle body off and make
sure that it appears to be working smoothly. You might want to try
peeking into the area between the IM and the engine to see if there
isn't some foreign object in there ...
For general information ... there's another similar part under the
intake manifold ... a tube that is part of the coolant system that runs
across the top of the engine to connect to the external plumbing at the
back of the engine. Fortunately for me I was working on an engine that
was not installed, so it wasn't too difficult to remove the thing.
There's also a knock sensor buried underneath the IM stuff.
When I get some bolts that are long enough for me to attach my "spare"
engine to my engine stand I'm going to see if I can't pull a compression
check to see if I have any bent valves ... I figure I'll also pull the
IM so that I can investigate my theory about the demisting chamber and
sucking liquid oil into the intake ...
