In the 60K we've had ours, that has been our experience too. In fact, I've
run 100 octane from the local guys (5 gallons when it was near empty). It
made NO difference in performance. It also will not hurt your engine. In the
old days, yes. The V8 has a very sophisticated engine management system. It
will not allow you to affect it. The knock sensors will detect pinging long
before you hear it, and adjust the timing accordingly. The new FSI engines
are so advanced, Audi says they can even be run on 80 octane. Performance
will suffer greatly, of course. But, the 3.2 is 12.5:1, where the V8 is only
10.6:1.
