Audifans,
Your enthusiatic support and this list convinced me to keep my beloved
(but tiring) V8 (ie Whats the next V8 post).
I sucessfully replaced the speed and ignition refrence sensors. PITA. I
think the best tool I had was my flexible fingers and my medium sized
arms, I continually thought, as I was twisted in every direction, that it
would be impossible if my arms were any bigger. Smaller people will
definatly have an advantage in replacing these sensors. Going through the
wheel well to disconnect the plugs was the way to do it. I tried to detach
the connector mount (17mm and 13mm bolts) but stripped the head of the
13mm bolt and performed the job without removing it in the end. In
stripping the 13mm bolt I realized the reason they wern't both 17mm is
because there is not even room enough for the 13mm head. Another key
to small arms is to have a large assortment of 10mm wrenches with
differing offsets and lengths. Really all that needs to be done for this job is
unplug the sensors from the connector mount and remove the 2 10mm
bolts that hold both the heat sheild and the sensor mount in place.
Result: Hot start problem solved!
Before I had the hot start problem I had a crank twice problem. I had to
turn the car over, reset the ignition and then start it on the second try.
Solved!
I also had a very subtle acceleration hesitation where the spedo would
hover slightly every 500 rpm interval during acceleration. This seems
solved also and acceleration feels much more smooth and linear.
Thanks!
Jason
