Jorgen is a reputable shop that rebuilds these racks. Unfortunately
cores are scarce and you usually have to send yours in for rebuild and
return, they do offer very quick service.
I have done the rack without replacing any hardware at all, however,
the crush washers are definitely a good idea. The rack is a PITA, a
little higher on the scale than the heater core or blower motor in my
humble opinion. Don't forget to remove the top two trans to engine
bolts, gives you the room necessary to get the rack out of the passenger
side wheel well.

Subject: [V8] Pwr steer raack replacement parts?
I need to get my Servotronic rack out as the boot's torn and the rack is
leaking.
I am handing the rack over to a specialist to replace the internal seals
and the
boot but will remove/replace the rack.
I've done a heater core/blower fan replacement recently, can anyone tell
me how
a rack replacement rates (as in how much more of a PITA was the rack the
first
time you did it compared to the core the first time you replaced that?)
Also I have done a search on this site about the rack replacement but
can't see
exactly what I will need to replace. Having a look at thr family album,
this is
what I guess I'll need on my shopping list:
tie rod retainer plate 431 419 853
hex nut (rack end) +N 011 184 9
hex nut (top of ret plate) +N 011 133 7
banjo washers N 904 211 01 (x4)
2 litres of Audi hydraulic fluid G 002 000
Anything else I need?
